Save of the Week

Portland Timbers goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey's late block earns Week 7 Save of the Week honors

Adam Kwarasey's late block on Shelton wins Save of the Week honors

Tyler Deric was in the hunt for his fourth MLS Save of the Week award of 2015, but Adam Kwarasey beat him out to earn the Week 7 honors.

Kwarasey nabbed the Save of the Week for the first time this season after coming up huge with a clutch block on Khiry Shelton in the dying moments of the Portland Timbers' 1-0 win over New York City FC. Shelton was slipped through on goal with a chance to pull level in the 89th minute, but Kwarasey ensured that his side would leave with all three points by denying the NYCFC rookie with his right foot.

Deric also had a big save this past weekend, but the Houston Dynamo goalkeeper's stop was unable to top Kwarasey's. The Timbers netminder earned almost 46 percent of the vote while Deric finished in second-place with just under 26 percent.

Kwarasey is the third goalkeeper after Deric and Real Salt Lake's Nick Rimando (a two-time winner) to bring home a Save of the Week accolade in 2015. Orlando City SC defender Brek Shea also took home the award, winning for his goal line clearance against D.C. United in Week 5.
