Orlando Ctiy and midfielder Mauricio Pereyra have agreed to a contract extension for 2021, the club announced Tuesday. Pereyra's contract expired after the 2020 season. It is a one year deal.

Pereyra, 30, joined the club in the summer of 2019 and blossomed in 2020 as a key piece of the attack. He had two goals and eight assists in 14 starts as the club enjoyed their best-ever season.

“We are very excited to have Mauricio continue with us in Orlando for another year,” EVP of Soccer Operations Luiz Muzzi said in a club statement. “He has shown himself to be incredibly creative and a driving force behind our attack. Mauricio is a very important piece on our roster and we look forward to seeing how he continues to elevate his game with the club next season.”

Before joining Orlando, he most recently played in Russia for FC Krasnodar, where he appeared in 201 games and recorded 29 goals and 33 assists across all competitions. He has also featured for Club Nacional in his native Uruguay, as well as Club Atletico Lanus in Argentina. Pereyra has never been capped by the Uruguay senior national team, though he featured extensively for their youth teams.
