Omar Gonzalez introduced in Pachuca press conference in full Darth Vader costume | SIDELINE

Gonzalez unveiled as Darth Vader in Mexico

LA Galaxy's Omar Gonzalez reacts to PK call vs. Real Salt Lake

There are undoubtedly more than a few LA Galaxy fans feeling Tuesday that Omar Gonzalez has turned to the Dark Side.

If that was the case when they heard of Gonzalez’s transfer to Liga MX outfit Pachuca, just wait until they get a load of the team’s Twitter feed.

Gonzalez was trotted out in full Darth Vader garb in his official introduction, flanked by a stormtrooper and what appeared to be someone in an Obi-Wan Kenobi – or Luke Skywalker? – costume complete with lightsaber.

Gonzalez – whose seven-year tenure with the Galaxy, where he established himself as one of MLS’s best defenders and a US national team regular came to an end Tuesday – then revealed his true identity when he sat down alongside Pachuca brass at the press conference.

It’s true, everything is coming up Star Wars these days, but the symbolism of this particular display can’t be denied.
