New York Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch: Didier Drogba would not fit Red Bulls

RBNY’s Marsch: Drogba wouldn’t fit Red Bulls' philosophy

He’s turned out to be one of the impact signings of the 2015 season, but did you know that, once upon a time, Montreal Impact forward Didier Drogba was a target of the New York Red Bulls?

That detail was dug up by Metro New York reporter and New York Red Bulls beat writer Kristian Dyer, who indicated that Drogba was on the team’s discovery list in 2012.

But would the current, league-leading Red Bulls acquire a player like Drogba today? Not necessarily, according to head coach Jesse Marsch.

“I don’t think Drogba would fit with what we’re doing here,” he told Dyer.

For a full explanation from Marsch of why, check out the Metro report by clicking here.

The two teams will face off Wednesday night (7:30 pm ET; MLS LIVE in US, TVA Sports in Canada) at Red Bull Arena as the Red Bulls continue their quest for the Supporters' Shield and the Impact look to move closer toward a playoff berth.
