MRI on Dominic Oduro's groin injury "positive," but Montreal Impact remain vague on winger's return

Oduro's MRI "positive," but Impact vague on winger's injury timetable

MONTREAL – Dominic Oduro, like his club, is keeping his cards close to his chest.

The Montreal Impact started it with a laconic tweet Wednesday morning saying that Oduro would “miss a few weeks” due to a groin injury. Oduro, ever the savvy veteran, wouldn’t offer a timeline, either, when he spoke to the media a couple of hours later.

At least, the speedy winger confirmed that he wouldn’t have to go under the knife, unlike some of the unluckier Montreal forwards – Cameron Porter has and Kenny Cooper probably will.

“The MRI was positive,” Oduro told reporters on Wednesday morning. “I just want to take it day by day. Me getting healthy is more important, right now, than trying to rush it to the field. I’m just trying, as much as possible, to get my rehab, get better, get fit, and when the time is right, I’ll be able to get out there. When, I don’t know, but I just want to take it day by day.”

Oduro injured his groin in the Impact’s 4-1 win Saturday over Real Salt Lake. As he tried to get past left back Demar Phillips, his left leg “pulled back,” he explained. Down for a full minute, Oduro managed to walk to the bench. Jack McInerney replaced him.

Not displaying his usual enthusiastic demeanor with reporters after the game, Oduro had a hunch that he’d be out for some time. He was told of the nature of the injury this week but won’t go public with it.

“I don’t think I’m allowed to discuss that right now, but it’s something that’s hindering me from playing,” Oduro said. “I just want to get healthy and return to the game.”

It is Oduro’s first groin injury. With his pacey approach to the game, Oduro isn’t planning on taking any chances on his road to recovery.

“It’s just having the right mentality,” Oduro said. “At the end of the day, you just do what the trainers say. I do rely on my speed. It’s one of the talents I have, and I use that to do my best on the field. I just have to focus on getting my strength back.”
