"Start spreading the news. I’m leaving today. I want to be a part of it, New York, New York.”
MLS Fantasy owners this weekend looking for a bumper return on points needed only to look to the Big Apple. With both New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls on a Double Game Week, more than half of the round’s Dream Team was made up of players from those two clubs.
NYCFC contributed four players to the ideal squad starting with goalkeeper Josh Saunders and defender RJ Allen, who helped manage a clean sheet against Toronto FC midweek. Midfielders Ned Grabavoy and Frank Lampard joined them with their goal contributions on the week.
The Red Bulls contributed two defenders in Damien Perrinelle and Kemar Lawrence, who had their cleansheet against the Portland Timbers on Sunday. All told, those six New Yorkers were worth 83 points.
For those players not in a New York state of mind, San Jose contributed Chris Wondolowski and Quincy Amarikwa. The team was rounded out by Benny Feilhaber, Sebastian Giovinco, and Devon Sandoval.
Sandoval was one of two single gamers to make the Dream Team, with his brace against the Galaxy making him the only other forward to score two goals this week and in half the time as Wondo.
The Round’s top score went to The Re-Mix, who made the safe play of captaining Giovinco and got a bevy of double-digit performances from double-game weekers, taking this team to 139 points.
Here’s the Round 29 Dream Team:
There’s no rest for our fantasies, as four teams are on a double this week. Wednesday sees the Chicago Fire, Houston Dynamo, Montreal Impact, and Sporting Kansas City all in action. Here’s what else you need to keep in mind:
- The transfer deadline for Round 30 is September 23rd at 8:00pm Eastern.
- Use the MLS Injury Report and MLS Disciplinary Summary very thoughtfully. Locking in questionable players on a single this week could prove foolhardy.
Legs don’t fail me now: The Impact are on their second straight double match week, so expect some squad rotation going into the back end. Donny Toia and Didier Drogba were big scorers last week, and I have a feeling they’re a good bet to continue on that form. Still, pay close attention to the reports coming from their camp tomorrow.
Here are some other players I’m looking at for my team:
Devon Sandoval
- Real Salt Lake - Forward ($5.5) -
There’s risk in chasing an outlier performance, but there’s no denying Sandoval’s got the hot foot at the moment. That price tag makes it pretty easy to take a flier, freeing up cash for DGW players if you’re gonna make a handful of transfers.
Michael Stephens - Chicago Fire - Midfielder ($6.1) - Continuing the thrifty theme, now with added double game week action. Stephens is starting to find some assists, and while his team may be in crisis mode his performances lately have been solid. Potential sleeper this week.
Evan Bush - Montreal Impact -Goalkeeper ($5.4) - Keeper’s the one spot where I’m not worried about squad rotation, and with the Impact getting to play both their games this week at home the odds of at least one clean sheet are in his favor.
