Did you come away with big points during Round 28? Were you able to capitalize on successful double game week players like Bobby Burling, or did you end up with a bunch of duds like Dom Dwyer? Regardless of which camp you fall into, it’s time to push your budget to its max for Round 29 to either recover from your fantasy flop or continue your DGW domination. With several promising double games available, these are the players I think will stand out.
Keepers
DGW Rotation: If you saw my article last week, then you know I mentioned rotating keepers to maximize your DGW potential. David Bingham (SJ $5.8m) is the second half of my ideal rotation and Round 29 offers two great chances for clean sheets with the Quakes hosting a Drogba-less Montreal and then traveling to face a dysfunctional NYCFC.
Max Games: If you are trying to get the most games out of your 'keeper, then go with Evan Bush (MTL $5.2m). It may not pay immediate dividends, as Bush accompanied Drogba home to Montreal ahead of the San Jose game, but Montreal will still have six more games in the coming four rounds that Bush is likely to see time in, starting with Saturday's home clash against the New England Revolution.
Defenders
Offensive Machine: I don’t usually go for offensive-minded defenders, but Chris Tierney (NE $7.5m) is just too good to pass up. Over the past six weeks, Tierney has racked up two assists, one goal, and a handful of clean sheets. This performance has propelled him to the top of the defensive form list and makes him a great pickup during New England’s DGW.
DGW Differential: If you are looking for the cheapest way into the San Jose defense, then pick up Shaun Francis ($5.2m). As a left back, he’s not going to rack up a lot of defensive bonus points, but at only 7.2 percent ownership, a couple of clean sheets could send your team jumping up the standings.
The Long Shot: The best value you’re going to get out of a DGW defender this round will come from Donny Toia (MTL $5.1m). He’s already a favorite of managers with a budget backline, but be wary, he has a history of not playing all of his DGWs so he could quickly turn into a SGW player.
Midfielders
Value Form: If you want to break away from the cookie cutter formation this week, then consider adding Diego Fagundez (NE $7.5m). Over his past three games, he’s scored three goals and earned one assist and helped bring the Revs out of a late season slump. But the best part is that his price offers managers a lot of flexibility for other positions.
Rookie King: He didn’t have the kindest of homecomings last week, but that does not make Sebastian Giovinco (TOR $13.1m) any less appealing. He starts the week against NYCFC, where he previously earned a hat trick and then wraps up the DGW against a Colorado Rapids team that has not kept a clean sheet in five games. So don’t balk at his price because he’s definitely captain material.
DGW Gamble: If you are a manager who likes to gamble, then roll the dice on San Jose’s Matias Perez Garcia ($8.5m). His season has been a little disappointing to most managers, but he’s recently recovered from an injury and earned an assist in the Quakes last game. This could mean more playing time during this DGW and could be profitable for the 0.7 percent of managers who own him.
Forwards
DGW Must Have: If you’re going to bring in one DGW forward this round then it needs to be Bradley Wright-Phillips (NY $11.3m). True, he’s had some trouble on the road, but he’s still scored five goals and earned one assist in his last five games. It’s hard to imagine this form not carrying over and with other top DGW forwards unavailable, he’s the best shot for two games.
SGW Option: Yes, there are SGW options this week and they both come from Chicago. This weekend the Fire host Orlando City SC, who've struggled to keep clean sheets on the road lately. This gives David Accam ($9.3m) and Kennedy Igboananike ($7.6m) and excellent shot at points and will get you ready for their DGW in round 30. Both players are on a good run of form, so this choice really just comes down to which player best fits your budget.
