LA Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos will take to the streets on Sunday, when the Mexican national team star will serve as Grand Marshall of the 69th edition of the East LA Mexican Independence Parade.

The Galaxy announced on Thursday that the 26-year-old dos Santos will headline the annual parade, which is billed as “the biggest and most unique” of its type in the country. Organized by the Mexican Consulate of Los Angeles and the Comité Mexicano Cívico Patriótico, a non-profit organization devoted to maintaining Mexican traditions, the parade will be broadcast live on Univision beginning at 1:30 pm ET.

A number of luminaries have served as Grand Marshall of past editions of the parade, including Ronald Reagan, John Wayne, Oscar de la Hoya, Placido Domingo and Julio Cesar Chavez.

A longtime veteran of the Mexican national team, dos Santos will be in MLS action on Saturday night, when the Galaxy host MLS Player of the Week Didier Drogba and the Montreal Impact at StubHub Center (10:30 pm ET, MLS LIVE). Dos Santos has two goals and three assists in four MLS regular season appearances with the Galaxy, and three goals and five assists in five games across all competitions since signing with LA in mid-July.
