Colorado Rapids 1, Houston Dynamo 1 | 2020 MLS Match Recap

At the death! Rapids snap Dynamo win streak behind late equalizer

On a winter-like September night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, the Colorado Rapids snapped the Houston Dynamo's three-game win streak with a 96th-minute equalizer to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Less than a minute into the second half, Dynamo forward Christian Ramirez latched onto a cross from Memo Rodriguez and volleyed it far post past Rapids goalkeeper William Yarbrough to put the Dynamo up 1-0.

Colorado immediately responded and dominated the rest of the second half. However, despite outshooting Houston 26-10 for the match, they needed to wait until the sixth minute of stoppage time to get the tying goal via defender Lalas Abubakar. The center back, up on a corner kick, collected Sam Vines' recycled service and cushioned home past goalkeeper Marko Maric to salvage the match.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: Colorado continue to get a point here and there, but still sit near the bottom of the Western Conference standings and are winless in seven matches. The draw breaks Houston’s win streak, but they still have a six-game unbeaten streak and are climbing under head coach Tab Ramos.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: After Christian Ramirez's quick goal, the Rapids responded and applied continuous pressure. Lalas Abubakar finally broke through to deposit the tying goal and get his side a point.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Houston goalkeeper Marko Maric finished with five saves as Colorado won the shot battle 26-10. It was one of his busier outings since arriving this past offseason from Hoffenheim.
