Champions League: After drawing first leg, what does history say about Montreal Impact's chances?

CCL: After first-leg tie, what are Montreal's odds on Wednesday night?

The Montreal Impact got a result in Mexico City. Now they get to come home to play in front of their fans.

Even against Club América, coming home suits the Impact well, but how well is the question. The answer could lie in the history of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Since the start of this iteration of the Champions League in 2008-09, there have been 15 instances of teams playing to a draw in the first leg of a knockout round. In only four of those instances has the road team been able to beat the home team to either advance to the next round or win the tournament.

The most famous case, as most MLS fans will know, is when Monterrey walked into Rio Tinto Stadium in the 2010-11 final and walked out with a 1-0 victory to take home the trophy.

One of the other cases was in 2010-11, when Toronto FC beat the LA Galaxy 2-1 at the StubHub Center in the quarterfinals.

Will Montreal join RSL and LA in the negative annals of history, or will they be one of the many to take advantage of their first-leg performance? Find out Wednesday night at 8 pm ET (FOX Sports 2, UniMás, Sportsnet ONE, TVA Sports 2).
